A programmable logic controller (PLC) is a small computer that is designed to control manufacturing processes, such as assembly lines, that require a high amount of reliability and consistency to maintain operation. However, since each manufacturing process is different in its needs and complexities, PLCs are designed to be programmed in order to operate and maintain any system structure or flow that is required.

How Is It Done?

PLC programming is usually written on a desktop or laptop computer. Once the PLC is needed in the field, the program is uploaded to the device and is installed in the control panel of the operating system. This is usually the responsibility of a Controls Engineer.
